Is there any way to prevent the creation of all the default folders when you are using custom locations?

I am currently using custom locations because i want to split backups from thumbs / encoded video from the main photos to different locations for fast or spinning drives. However the UPLOAD_LOCATION still creates all those other folders even if they are empty (as in no .immich file).

No. This is a docker limitation, not immich.

Well perhaps you're right in how it works today but if Immich made it so a different upload location env was used when trying to separate your directories it could work I would think. I imagine the issue that I'm facing right now is because upload location is the same environment variable you use when you're using the combined directories or the custom directories.
