Gamescope features

Wayland-enabled proton should work better than gamescope+XWayland. Are there some features missing or some cases when gamescope is really necessary?

Missing features

• Reported monitor resolution and scaling:
  • per window fractional scaling
  • per window zero monitor scaling
• Fullscreen games with different aspect ratio might get stretched or placed on the left side of the monitor

For native games that run only through xwayland, gamescope is needed for the same scaling issues mentioned in the color management issue thread, like cs2
I have a 4k monitor and two 1080p monitors, and gamescope is the best way for me to play in resolutions higher than 1080p

• I can set xwayland:force_zero_scaling=true, and together with GDK_SCALE=2 most x11 apps look good on my main monitor, but when I'm putting the apps on my 1080p monitor they are then scaled by 2 and way too large (like steam, or discord when I want to use global keybinds)
• With csgo-vulkan-fix plugin, it doesn't seem to register clicks outside of what would be 1080p when I force it to a higher resolution like 1440p, it's a bit odd to explain but I can't use menus on the right side/bottom right side
• Wayland version for cs2 is also a bit buggy on my side, it only shows higher resolutions for display mode "fullscreen" and when I initially switch to 2560x1440 and apply settings everything works fine, but upon restart I again can't use menus, except when the window is in a floating state, but then it is also scaled like I am using 1440p on an 1080p monitor (in addition to steam overlay not working in wayland yet)

Not sure if there is another "native" hyprland option I can use, but it seems like gamescope is the only way to play it without any other issue/drawbacks

Some games have issues with mouse capture (cursor remaining visible, mouse sometimes moving outside the game window, game freezing when loosing focus etc.). Using gamescope seems to largely alleviate those.
