Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
This page will be regularly updated with common questions and answers about the KidsChores Integration and Dashboard. If you have additional questions, feel free to ask!
KidsChores includes built-in access controls to ensure only authorized users can claim chores, request rewards, or approve actions. Permissions are based on Home Assistant user roles and integration settings.
- β Kids can claim chores and request rewards if their HA user is linked in the integration.
- β Parents/Admins can claim, approve, and manage chores & rewards.
- β Users not linked to a kid cannot interact with the system.
No. Kids cannot approve their own or their siblings' chores if they are logged in with their own HA account. Only parents and HA admins have approval rights.
π Learn More: Access Control Overview & Best Practices β
No! While the system was designed with kids in mind, there is nothing preventing you from using this functionality to assign chores to anyone. Just set them up in the Manage Kids section.
- You can set up anyone as "kids" in the system, and it will work the same way as it does for children.
β οΈ Important Note: A parent set up as a "kid" will be able to claim and approve their own chores since they have system permissions.- If using this for self-assigned chores, consider setting up automatic approval to prevent needing to manually claim and approve your own chores.
Despite the extensive capabilities of the system, there is no plan to change the systemβs name from KidsChores at this time. The system will continue to be built around family chore tracking, with a primary focus on kids and parental oversight.
If you're looking for a fresh start, there are two options:
- KidsChores provides a built-in service to Reset all KidsChores data while keeping all kids, chores, and rewards configured.
- This method removes all status information, statistics, and history but does not delete your chore or reward setup.
β οΈ Important Note: This action cannot be undone, so use it with caution.- https://github.com/ad-ha/kidschores-ha/wiki/Service:-Reset-All-Data
If you want a completely fresh start, including removing all chore and reward configurations:
- Go to Setting\Devices & Services\KidsChores and and remove the KidsChores Integration entry from Home Assistant.
- Restart Home Assistant to ensure all stored data is cleared.
- Reinstall the integration and set up KidsChores from scratch.
This method removes everything, allowing you to start over with a clean slate. π
When something isnβt working as expected, effective troubleshooting helps identify the cause faster and makes it easier for the community to provide assistance.
To get the best help possible, follow the KidsChores Troubleshooting Guide, which walks through log analysis, checking Developer Tools, and testing directly in Home Assistant to determine if the issue is related to the integration or the dashboard.
