installing sonic-pi on a Linux 6.1.0-37-amd64 LMDE 6 (faye) and did not work

i followed the instruction

Check your current Qt version with qmake --version , did error and did not work

so i reinstalled to check for error but no

when compiling i got some warning (around 40) - on differnt place

the command ./sonic-pi
give a error no file or dirctory

but in the gui going to
/Development/sonic-pi/bin$

and there i click on the sonic-pi file

it will start, write something about welcome
But as soon i wish to write play 60
the software close

installed is sonic Pi v5.0.0-beta-2 on Linux

any idea how to make it run?

I've sorted out my problems with a VirtualBox Mint LMDE 6 and will go through a whole build of the 5.0 dev build tonight, hopefully

Debian 6 - which is debian Bookworm - does deviate from both Ubuntu based linux mint, and Ubuntu itself

Debian based distros:
First off, the account that is created on installation, is a member of the audio group by default. If you create an new user account, that user will need to be added to the audio group

eg

sudo usermod -Ag audio <username>

You do need to install jackd2 to create the /etc/security.limits.d/audio.conf

and answer yes to the realtime priority question

If you have a already got jackd2 installed you need to run

sudo dpkg-reconfigure jackd2

and that will then ask you the question, and create the audio.conf file

Bookworm seems to install build-essential by default, and also appears to have gcc-12 and g++-12

whereas the latest Ubuntu based Linux Mint versions have gcc-13 and g++-13 - which does not build sonic-pi (or parts of it) correctly

You should have full permissions in the folder where you try to build sonic-pi

Your posts suggest you are trying to build in /Development

That is not the same as ~/Development - this is a sub-folder of your home directory

In ~/Development/sonic-pi you will have full permissions unless you run some build command with sudo

I am assuming that you are building sonic-pi in a virtual machine running on Apple's OSX as you state that the OS is "MacBookAir6,2"

Are you using VirtualBox? or some other virtualization engine

(also I will need to translate some of your post as I'm not good at German? (I think)) ?

I hope this helps, I'll try and sort out a full build from scratch on my LMDE 6 virtual machine later

No, the MacBook Air 2014 got a new OS with linux mint debian (called LMDE 6 (faye))
so nothing virtual

and all the commands have been done with sudo

Jackd2 ist installed (and the newest version)

OK, I'm not sure I can do a full build tonight, and debug it

I'll give it a go

so first of all

I installed jackd2, git and curl

sudo apt-get install git curl jackd2

(and because this was the first install of jackd2 it does ask if you want to enable realtime priority)

I've done the git clone and then done some apt gets

mkdir ~/Development
git clone https://github.com/sonic-pi-net/sonic-pi.git ~/Development/sonic-pi

sudo apt-get install build-essential git curl qt6-tools-dev qt6-tools-dev-tools gcc-12 g++-12 libssl-dev ruby-dev erlang-dev erlang-xmerl cmake libaubio-dev libpng-dev libboost-filesystem-dev libboost-thread-dev qt6-svg-dev libxkbcommon-dev supercollider-server sc3-plugins-server alsa-utils  libasound2-dev pipewire-audio-client-libraries pipewire-jack

On Debian bookworm some of these are already installed

Then

cd ~/Development/sonic-pi/app

 ./linux-prebuild.sh 

This completed without error

Nest step is to try

./linux-config.sh

This is probably the longest / slowest part of the build and does depend on the correct versions of qt6 - and not having qtchooser installed

and this gives me my first error

So I need to look at getting the erllang files now

I installed esl-erlang via the binary from

as you suggested and built again from scratch

I think, possibly because you are using sudo to run the build commands. that might be why it is not running for you and crashing out, as I've just built from scratch with alreadyhaving the esl-erlang binary installed, and it works

I would suggest removing the sonic-pi folder from inside ~/Development, and re-cloning the git repo

Do the build command without using sudo

You need to get hold of Elixir from https://binaries2.erlang-solutions.com- either through a browser or from the command line using wget

sudo dpkg -i elixir_1.16.1_1_otp_26.2.1~debian~bullseye_all.deb

Now try cleaning your build folder again - Not sure you need to do this as I'm not sure elixir is needed early on, but it's probably worth doing

./linux-clean.sh

and then run through these build steps again and you should find that the final step completes this time

I don't think the errors with QT / scintalla are relevant, I think they are warnings not errors
